what they really can't handle: - more than one hero (especially if the "other" heroes aren't central characters) - not an origin story - a plot different from (not more complicated than, just different from) one of Snidely Whiplash's more dastardly schemes - two iconic and long-separated events in a character's history not happening in the first movie - (not universal, but often): Not having the supposedly good-at-heart hero kill people, or do things to kill people followed by a "but he's okay, folks!" shot of should-be-dead guys crawling away - keeping the villain alive
