Hmm what's worse, intellectual property rights or HUMAN RIGHTS.?
Apparently the previous time this happened ('82 - '83) Gates and Balmer apparently had discussions about how to take Allen's Microsoft stock back - which apparently lead to Allen's separation with the the company. Nice guys, huh?http://www.pbs.org/cringely/pulpit/2006/pulpit_200 ..."These roles changed over time, of course, and what clearly precipitated the change was Paul Allen's health. He contracted Hodgkins Disease, a form of cancer, in 1982 when Allen was in charge of the development of MS-DOS 2.0...During one of those last long nights working to deliver DOS 2.0 in early 1983, I am told that Paul Allen heard Gates and Ballmer discussing his health and talking about how to get his Microsoft shares back if Allen were to die.Maybe that's just the sort of fiduciary discussion board members have to have, but it didn't go over well with Paul Allen, who never returned to Microsoft, and over the next eight years, made huge efforts to secure his wealth from the fate of Microsoft. Just random example. Not I don't like maps; In some ways I like paper maps over a Wiki map as feels like old D&D days. However for the extra money I rather have "art of" books and the soundtrack.

Yes, the sleeping dragon has awakened. But, you have to remember that the reason they have so much of our debt, is because they were buying it to keep their currency artificially low, something they face increasing world pressure about. So that won't last forever. China is definitely an economic force to be reckoned with, however they have to maintain at least 8% annual growth just so their rural labor pool can find factory jobs and not starve to death. The air quality of the whole country is abysmal, to give you perspective, a traffic cop has a life expectancy of about 40. The pollution there is unreal, most of their major rivers are unfit for even industrial use! China is growing for sure, currently their is a lot of opportunity there, but they are behind us in freedom of thought, health, and other social benefits. I wouldn't want to live there, but the idea of having to learn Mandarin or Cantonese to do business is becoming a real possibility. |
