Newsweek's toast (and Time isn't far behind. The problem for a traditional newsweekly is that they're printed on Friday nights usually (or used to be, since Time comes out on Friday now), and are de facto filled with "old news." With the reading attention of consumers spread all over map, why would anyone wait for a print copy of Newsweek to be delivered on Monday or Tuesday, days after the contents were assembled? And moving to "think" pieces isn't new either; there are already plenty of them. Like Life in the early 70s, Look in the 60s, even an institution like Newsweek can die of old age.
iTouch with a camera. I'd buy it.

“I must not fear.Fear is the mind-killer.Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.I will face my fear.I will permit it to pass over me and through me.And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.Only I will remain.

Fox doesn't criticize. They abuse. We'd all WELCOME a real Fox News Channel. but as it stands Faux News is just a right wing media machine.Fox is belligerent and un-American..
Considering the much higher degree of enrichment required for weapons grade uranium a larger enrichment facility with many more stages is required to make a bomb than to make nuclear fuel. I call B.S.!

If you found a replenishing source of money in a rank sewer... You would still hate to go down there to get it.?
The comment sort of misses the point. It's a religiously-provoked event by groups that are called and call themselves "Mormon". I think we agree there. Whether you'd call them "true Mormons" is as debatable as calling someone a true Christian or true Scottsman."[FLDS vs LDS] There is a fairly big difference"Here is where I disagree. The official stance of the LDS church is to reject specific points of the D&C that the US DoJ threatened to arrest them over (polygyny). Proclaimed FLDS elders reject the official stance publicly, but on all other matters of practice, teaching, and belief (even privately this particular one in many cases), they're the exact same. |

I did not actually watch the video, since I was there live, but I completely agree with Azdiak on the point that there is no clear feedback system on the mural ads as with the regular inline ads. I concede that point. The problem, I believe, is that we are all so conditioned at this point at "free" ***** on the internet that many people do not understand that it takes tremendous amounts of time, energy and effort to deliver all of that data for free, and instead end up feeling entitled to these services. I don't have anything for or against this particular ad Digg runs, cause I can just shrink my browser and it magically disappears, but I do have a problem with the general attitude towards ads on sites.I, personally hate 99.99999% of ads out there since they are 1) unimaginative and 2) trying to get me to buy ***** that I can guarantee I do not need, but...they are a necessary evil. Why is it that we can tolerate ads on TV that literally interrupt your watching experience every 3 minutes, usually with a creepy guy talking about ***** pills, but be so up in arms over a background image.aetherboy, you are the perfect example of this trend. Instead of conceding that it is in the best interest of everyone to keep improving Digg, especially for us users, you take the stance that there are always people who will take their place. The truth is, you are right up to a certain point. There are always a 1000 startups looking to take down the giant, but if Digg fails because users migrate to another site without ads, that site will eventually need to start generating funds and will eventually start selling ads as well and the cycle will repeat until VC's will no longer fund these types of sites and they die off or they start charging for content. As my old physics professor used to say, "there is no such thing as a free lunch".I do really want to get a dialogue going on this subject, so can I steer it towards alternate funding schemes for the web.PS. I love this commentary by Louis CK: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOtEQB-9tvk
