I worked in a hospital for 7 years...trust me, you get subhuman treatment when you don't have insurance. They will get you stablilized, then release you only to have you come back half dead. You don't have to feel static electricity you can ruin something without even knowing it, by the time you feel the zap it's up to around 40,000V (or so my electronics professor, Mr. Sorenson, told me). Static can come from two surfaces rubbing together, it doesn't have to come from the floor, your shirt and coat rubbing together could do it..

Though I don't know the details, i agree. If microsoft was paying the NSA for the time or if whatever contributions that the NSA made were open to the public, I would be 100% happy about it, but i really doubt they are. I can understand that the NSA is trying to make government computers more secure by doing this but if all they're doing is contributing to some other companies intellectual property I feel we would be better off if they urged government departments to migrate away from windows onto more secure operating systems which the NSA can publicly contribute to.
