In the Wilson case, it seems that the residents have a much larger problem of corrupt legislatures willing to sell them out for bribes. Obviously these guys needed to be voted out of office (or sent to jail) before many things (not just internet service) can be fixed. In the Monticello case, it was not a picture perfect result, but now the residents have 2 fiber optic ISPs to choose from. They can go with the existing ISP that was forced through competition to lay down fiber. Or they can go with their own fiber solution that is not ready yet, but will presumably be more customer-centric. This case does an excellent job of showing that sometimes even competition with a severe legal disadvantage can still generate good results. Ideally the Monticello ISP would not have been allowed to use the courts to stop the city from laying down it's own fiber, but that is really more of a problem with the local laws and/or courts there.
The only thing stupid about this is that some idiot introduced piranha to a Florida pond. Piranha can destroy a lake ecosystem in short order, and if they were to escape in to a larger body of water like lake Okeechobee, we could lose a wonderful natural resource for good.. It really pisses me off to, but my anger is focused on the right people.

I'm not saying it's always been like that...But in the past 50 years, it's become 'The American Way' to make the most money off of whatever you can, and the Health Industry is no different.?
This is awesome. I have wanted to eat clone meat since I heard about cloning. I am glad I have probably already have. |

I was about to be disappointed in Digg...a Krugman article without a Clooney joke. You, sir, have restored my faith in consistency of Digg.

15 years is crazy long for someone who hasn't taken a life, if you ask me.

The advantage would be allowing you to reconfigure the array far more quickly, The drawback is that it would cost a huge amount without providing much benefit. As Strenoth mentioned, the precise placement is an issue: you would not do an observation while moving. They will have to be parked to the stability requirements.Cost: Those antennas weight about 100 tons each. Building 2 transporters for them was quite expensive. Building each antenna to drive around on its own would have cost a lot more. So the plan is to have a couple hundred antenna parking pads. Then you can move around a couple at a time, and have the rest observing. |
