Anyone who seriously thinks that is mistaken unless they add the clause "for rich people."Overall, though, 36 countries are better than us. But the facts don't work for some people!
Wish I was that creative. Some of those are awesome.

I think what is more telling than these ethically questionable business practices is the stand of our Attorneys General and other officials who are supposed to look out for citizens' interests. Combined with our elected officials continuous pandering to corporate interests, I have a hard time expecting this situation to change unless the issue of consumer rights is a real and foremost election issue.?
I don't think a few large nails going into dirt are going to do anything. Tent poles are simply not meant to have people hanging off of them |

You've got it mixed up a bit. The technology referenced in the article IS a pebble-bed reactor, or at least a version of one. PBRs don't "automatically cool down", and the fuel pellets certainly don't "move apart". PBRs are inherently safer than traditional reactors, because the reaction is self-modulating. It cannot melt down, because as the heat rises, the reaction slows due to doppler broadening, and the temperature comes back down. It is not possible for the temperature to rise above the melting point of the graphite containers.

It's a bigger problem than it might seem, introducing non-native species into an ecosystem. Change one variable and the whole natural balance goes out of whack:RIVER OTTERS IN YELLOWSTONE LAKE DEPEND ON A DECLINING CUTTHROAT TROUT POPULATIONhttp://www.bioone.org/doi/abs/10.1644/05-MAMM-A-20 ...Lake Trout Discovered in Yellowstone Lake Threaten Native Cutthroat Trouthttp://afsjournals.org/doi/abs/10.1577/1548-8446%2 ...It may seem a bit extreme and perhaps there might be a better way to address it, but it's not something that should be left to chance. Wherely (above) suggests "electrofishing" them which actually sounds like a pretty good idea except that you'd have to electrofish the whole lake at once and there is still the chance that a couple of piranha would escape detection and live to procreate, thrive and cause a massive problem with the introduction of yet another non-native species. See Kudzu ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kudzu#Ecological_inva ... )and Nutria as examples ( http://www.nutria.com/site4.php )

Will Smith? Well I guess he fits into the original story so well, why not. /sThankfully we'll never have to see it. |
